Chapter 8 | Searching for Information with Digital Resources

Chapter 8 dives into the world of digital resources.  There are so many avenues to collect sources on the internet!  To be frank, it is overwhelming.  I now understand why advertising companies strive to “cut through the clutter” to get their message across, and attract customers.  The internet as Bedford states is “…the largest and most accessible ‘library’ in the word… it is also the most disorganized library in the world…”.  This is why tools such as Boolean operators can help you cut through the clutter and narrow your results to exactly what is fitting for your research.

The most helpful digital search that I have had success with is using the Kitsap Regional Library homework page.  This helps cut through some pay walls to find full text peer reviewed articles appropriate to my topic of Play.   http://www.krl.org/homework.  I also found Google Scholar helpful.  Google is super user friendly and this helps refine your search to appropriate notable papers and sources.

I hadn’t thought about using youtube or going down the rabbit hole of videos and multimedia to use as sources, but there might be some interesting example on play.  Play is best understood from experience, and second best from observation.  Ideally I would be able to give a lecture to the class and engage them in acts of play to help prove my thesis.  Hmmm…
